Liverpool cruise into the last 16
Following on from a rampant group stage success, Liverpool meet Inter Milan in the round of 16 for the first time since 2008. Liverpool found themselves breezing into the last 16, with 6 games and 6 wins in the group stages, scoring 17 goals in the process (2.833 per game avg).
The last time the pair met was also a round of 16 tie, ending in a 2-1 aggregate win for Inter Milan.
Liverpool are boosted through the welcome return of Harvey Elliot and the arrival of Luis Diaz. The £37.5million signing arrives at Liverpool following the January window, with a host of other European outfits vying for the winger’s signature.
Inter Milan rank as serious opponents
Liverpool are in serious form but Inter Milan are no push over, coming into the tie in a similar red hot form off the back of an Italian Super cup success, beating their Italian counterparts Juventus on penalties.
Inzaghi’s side are sitting pretty at the top of Serie A and enter the round of 16 for the first time in 3 years.
Inter endured a difficult summer with the departures of full back Hakimi and star striker Romelu Lukaku, as well as the incident with Christian Eriksen.
Insigne signed a 2 year contract and began to strengthen the Italians squad, signing attacking midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu, aswell as the welcome arrivals of Joaquin Correa on loan from Inzaghi’s old side Lazio, Edin Dzeko and Dumfries to fill the right back void.
Inter Milan have found themselves playing free football in a rigid 3-5-2 formation under Inzaghi.
A serious turn around from Inter’s summer departures, to the surprise of all including Inter Milan’s CEO.
Inter Milan’s goals statistics are at a similar impressive level to Liverpool’s averaging 2.35 per game and scoring in both halves 67% of the time when playing at home.
The game is set up to be a memorable one, with two of Europe’s most formidable attacking units going head to head. Liverpool head into the first leg of the tie 2.14 favourites, with Inter Milan 3.46 to take the win on home soil.
The Asian goal line over 2.5/3 stands at odds of 1.98, which could be a good wager with the recent run and goal statistics for both formidable outfits.
